What I'm sharing with you today is exactly what I've done on my own website, and all website I design.

Its the most common mistake I see, thats so easy to fix.

Let's dive in.

Lesson 1:

First let's talk about your business goals. Are you clear on what they are, and is your website actually helping you reach them?

I'm guessing you're here because you want to know how to attract more clients.

What's the one action that you want everybody that visits your site to take? The one action that's going to help you to reach your main business goal.

For example, you might want your website visitors to:

  • Visit a physical location (salon, shop, cafe or studio)

  • Download a digital product

  • Sign up to a newsletter

  • Listen to your podcast

  • Book a call

  • Buy a product

  • Sign up for service

Just pick one thing.

This is your primary goal, and you're going to focus all of your attention on it.

You're going to design your website in such a way that the customer journey and flow of the site leads site visitors towards taking that action.

And there's a name for this action. You've probably heard it before: it's a Call-to-Action (or CTA).

A Call-to-Action is basically a simple action that you want site visitors to take, that takes the form of a button.

You've seen them all over the show: CLICK HERE TO GET STARTED, SIGN UP, CREATE A FREE ACCOUNT etc.

The trick to getting people to click on your CTA button lies in the design and in the copy.

Firstly, your CTA needs to be bold and bright so that it's eye catching and stands out on your website.

It also needs to be positioned in the right place. I recommend putting it above-the-fold... this is the section of your website that people land on and see... before they scroll down.

You could try placing it over your hero image, and just under your heading (more on those elements in another lesson... sign up for my free email course below!).

  • The instruction should be short and clear

  • Use words that focus on what your ideal client is going to GET rather than the action they need to take (for example, GET YOUR FREE GUIDE rather than SUBMIT)

  • Use active language and start with a verb

Now, the problem is that 95% of people who come to your website are not ready to buy on the first visit.

So the question becomes, how can you get them to take action on your website if they aren't ready to buy yet?
