First, let's discuss the benefits of mobile website reviews.

With so much internet traffic coming from mobile devices these days, it's really important to make sure your website is optimised for mobile use.

By checking out your website on your phone, you'll have a chance to experience firsthand what your site is like for your visitors, and get a sense of how people are actually interacting with it. You'll easily be able to spot areas where you can improve and make sure your site provides a seamless mobile experience.

Now let's explore some helpful tips on using your phone to evaluate your website's mobile experience.

Checklist for Wix Mobile Optimisation

Mobile Responsiveness:

Make sure the content is easily readable without the need to zoom or scroll horizontally. You should also ensure that images, videos and other media elements are properly optimised for viewing on a mobile device.

  • Website design adjusts well to different screen sizes and orientations: Use full-width and responsive elements like strips, columns, slideshows, galleries, horizontal menus and Wix apps with a 'Stretch' icon <-> to ensure that your website adapts to different screen sizes.

  • Content is easily readable without zooming or horizontal scrolling: Use a font size that is large enough to be easily readable on a mobile device (usually 16 pixels). Keep paragraphs short and use headings to break up text. Ensure your content is formatted correctly.

  • Images, videos and other media elements are properly optimised for mobile viewing: For images, go with JPEGs over PNGs unless you need transparency. JPEGs are smaller to download and maintain similar image quality. Avoid having multiple videos on your page, unless you use Wix Video which has been optimised for this.

Navigation and User Experience:

Your mobile site needs to be easy to navigate with menus and links that work correctly, so that your site visitors can get where they want to in as few clicks as possible.

  • Evaluate the ease of navigation on the mobile version: Test the site's navigation by clicking through the menus and links. Make sure that the menus and links work as intended and are easy to locate, providing a smooth browsing experience for users.

  • Test the accessibility and functionality of menus, drop-downs, and links: Ensure that all menus, drop-downs and links are accessible and functional on a mobile device. For example, prioritise single-click access to important pages like "Book a Call," "Buy Now," "Shop," and "Work with Me," while no more than 2 or 3 clicks for less important pages like FAQs.

  • Ensure that the website structure and hierarchy make sense on a smaller screen: Make sure that the website structure and hierarchy make sense on a smaller screen. For example, prioritise content by placing important information at the top of the page and grouping similar content together.

Load Times and Performance:

It's important to make sure your website loads quickly on mobile devices for good Wix mobile optimisation. Check for any elements or pages that take a long time to load, which could cause delays for your site visitors.

  • Assess the loading speed of web pages on mobile devices: Manually test your website's loading speed on your mobile device by accessing different pages and elements to identify any noticeable delays.

  • Simplify the design: Remove any unnecessary heavy elements or animations that might slow down the website's performance on mobile devices by ‘hiding’ them in the mobile view.

Visual Appeal and Branding on Wix Mobile:

Make the most of this opportunity to ensure your website aligns perfectly with your brand identity. Follow these steps:

  • Consistent colours: Be sure to match the colours on your website with your unique brand identity. Check that you're using the exact brand colours, complete with their respective HEX codes. Forms and Interactivity:

When checking your website on your phone, make sure to test any forms or interactive elements like contact forms or booking systems. Ensure they're easy to use, functional, and work seamlessly on mobile devices. Also, check that the input fields, buttons, and validation messages are easy to access.

  • Test any contact forms: Fill out any contact forms on your mobile device and ensure that it's easy to use and functions properly. Check that all input fields are visible as well as the validation message. Ensure you receive an email notification when someone fills in the form so that you can reply or action it.

  • Test Automations: If you're using Wix Automations to send automatic emails (useful for delivering free offers or sending an automatic email when someone signs up to your mailing list), check that the trigger is working. Make sure you're getting the email and any notifications you want to receive about the action.

  • Lightbox pop-ups: Make sure they're working on the site, and that they don't interfere with the user experience. If you really want them to pop-up automatically, you can adjust the timer to 60 seconds, but otherwise set them to pop-up only when a button is clicked

  • Wix apps: If you're using Wix apps such as Wix Bookings, Wix Stores, Wix Online Programs, Wix Pricing Plans, Wix Groups, Wix Members Area, Wix File Share etc, test it out and make sure it's working seamlessly

Call-to-Action (CTA) Buttons:

Don't forget to evaluate your CTA buttons. Make sure they're easy to see and tap with your fingers, and double-check that they lead to the right place.

  • Standout buttons for easy tapping: Make sure your call-to-action buttons are distinct and easily noticeable on a mobile screen. Use contrasting colours and an appropriate size for effortless tapping with fingers.

  • Verify intended destination: Test each CTA to confirm they lead visitors to the correct actions or destinations, such as a sign-up form or purchase page.

Content Readability and Formatting:

To enhance the readability and formatting of your content, consider the following:

  • Ensure text legibility: Use a font size of around 16 pixels to make the text easily readable on mobile devices.

  • Format paragraphs effectively: Keep paragraphs concise and utilise headings to break up content. Incorporate line breaks, bullet points, and ample white space to enhance clarity. Optimal line lengths typically range between 12-14 words.

  • Check for seamless presentation: Test your website on various devices to ensure proper alignment and avoid overlapping elements or awkward line breaks. Adjust margins, padding, and line spacing as needed to optimise the appearance and functionality on different devices.

Social Sharing and Integration:

Check that your social media links are inconspicuous and don't encourage your site visitors to leave your site before they've taken any action! Think about what you want them to do before you send them off into the social media vortex.

  • Check that social media links are inconspicuous and don't distract from the main content: Make sure social media links are easily accessible yet not overwhelming the main content. Opt for a location like the footer of your website.

  • Test links: Click on all social media links on your mobile device to ensure they work properly.

  • Prioritise site actions: Guide visitors towards meaningful interactions on your website before considering social media. Encourage them to take actions like booking a call, making a purchase, or signing up.

Contact Information:

Check that essential contact information such as phone numbers or email addresses are easily accessible and that clickable phone numbers initiate phone calls and email addresses open the default email client.

  • Essential contact information, such as phone numbers or email addresses, is easily accessible: Make sure that your phone number and email address are prominently displayed on your mobile website. For example, include them on the contact page or footer of your website.

  • Clickable phone numbers initiate phone calls: You can make your phone number clickable in Wix in the same text box where you type it out by clicking on the 'link' icon and selecting 'Phone Number'.

  • Email addresses open the default email client: You can make your email address clickable too, in the same way by clicking on the 'link' icon and selecting 'Email'. This allows visitors to send you an email directly from your website with just one tap, rather than filling in your contact form. (We still recommend having both options)
